Chilling New Sportswear

Adidas has launched Climachill, an active cooling apparel technology that provides an instant chilling sensation to help athletes perform in warm conditions. The line incorporates fabric woven with titanium and 3-D aluminium cooling spheres. The technology lowers athletes’  body temperature so they can train harder and run longer.

Aluminium cooling spheres are strategically located on the back, neck and forearms to correspond with the warmest areas of the body and cool skin upon contact. A microfiber fabric allows the apparel to act like mesh and wick excess moisture away from the skin. Using evaporation and conduction methods together for the first time, the SubZero flat yarn contains titanium and is woven throughout the inside of each article of clothing. Flat yarn has more surface area than traditional yarns, allowing it to transfer heat away from the body.

“At Adidas, we are constantly striving to create innovations to make the athlete comfortable so they can focus on performance,” said Heike Leibl, senior vice president of training at Adidas. The apparel was tested in Adidas’ state-of-the-art Clima chamber with temperatures as high as 122 degrees Fahrenheit.

Climachill pieces, which retail from $40 to $60, include running, training and tennis T-shirts, tanks and shorts. The line is being sold on adidas.com and at select retailers nationwide.

Discounts, Discovery & Delight: 3Ds for Retail Success

In fashion and retail, Dopamine is the drug of choice. Technically, Dopamine is the neurotransmitter of “desire.” Dopamine leaps across synapses in our brain to control our reward and pleasure centers. It enables craving. It induces repeat behaviors. It makes us want more. Therefore, it is in our best interest to create products and experiences which induce the release of dopamine in our consumers. We could use some dopamine for ourselves, too. In our fashion and retail world, there are three primary stimuli, "3Ds," we can control to deliver hits of dopamine: Discounts, Discovery and Delight.
